About 500 years ago the bay of Praia da Vitória consisted, before human intervention, of an extensive crescent-shaped beach with a few km of extension, to which was associated a network of coastal wetlands of brackish water whose ecosystem dynamics and stability was guaranteed by dune dynamics. The local settlement implied deep disturbances of anthropogenic origin, namely the drying and the landfill of said wetlands.
Since it is not possible to reverse and replace the original situation, since there are important infrastructures built along the bay from the point of view of the functioning of the city, this project proposes to guarantee the existence of a network of wetlands that composes between a green infrastructure on the coast with similar ecosystem characteristics and functions as the initial ones through the recovery, ecological restoration and reorganization of three key wetlands: Paul da Praia da Vitória, Paul do Belo Jardim and Paul da Pedreira, constituting a integrating network of wetlands with different characteristics associated with different avifauna types.
